SUMMARY OF

W&L’s WHISTLEBLOWER POLICY

v  Whistleblower Policy for reporting “fraudulent or dishonest conduct” or other violations of law or University policy.

Ř  “Fraudulent or dishonest conduct” involves a deliberate act or failure to act with the intention of obtaining an unauthorized benefit from the University (e.g., forgery of documents, unauthorized manipulation of computer files, misappropriation of University resources).

Ř  May also be used for reporting other University policy violations or violations of law, even if there is a separate procedure for reporting such allegations, if the whistleblower is not comfortable using such procedure (for whatever reason.)

v  All campus community members are encouraged to report such improper conduct to supervisor/department head; supervisors and department heads are REQUIRED to report suspected improper conduct to their Vice-President, the relevant Dean, or the Provost.

v  Any whistleblower may use alternate reporting avenues (direct to VP, Dean, Provost OR in sealed writing to Chair of Audit Subcommittee of the Committee on Finance of the Board of Trustees via Office of General Counsel.)

v  VP/Dean/Provost/Audit Subcommittee will conduct investigation, with Office of General Counsel serving as resource.

v  RETALIATION against whistleblowers is prohibited, and may be the subject of a separate sealed complaint to Chair of Audit Subcommittee via Office of General Counsel.

v  Knowing/reckless baseless allegations may be disciplined.
